DOCOVA V3 Feature Preview - Strict Version Control (Domino.Doc Customers Take Note)
September 28, 2011 by Gary WalshWhen our Domino.doc migration-to-DOCOVA business first started to heat up last year, we realized that DOCOVA needed more flexibility regarding version control (you can read a step-by-step DDM to DOCOVA migration here). The result is an enhanced "strict version control" (first introduced in a previous limited release) that goes above and beyond what is offered in Domino.doc.
With V3, DOCOVA’s version control is much broader in context. Version Control now runs the gambit, from Strict versioning for records compliance to non-restrictive, free versioning for collaboration purposes. Documents within DOCOVA can be personalized with the version controls required for the process or situation. For those requiring Strict versioning,
DOCOVA V3 provides:
1) There can only be one published version of a document. The published version is always a major release (1.0.0, 2.0.0, etc).
2) There can only be one editable version of a document. (No multiple paths).
3) New versions can only be created from the last created version or draft.
4) Retract a version - Retract option is configurable option on the document type. You can therefore force the creation of a new version with strict versioning, this ensures that if a change to a document is made you must make a new higher version
5) A published version and any metadata or files on it are never editable. Not even for a manager. To edit metadata or files a new draft should be created.
6) Strict Versioning also contains Allow Retract, Restrict Drafts options for added variations on the Strict Versioning functionality.
Additional options have been added to the strict versioning configuration on the doctype form.

In closing, the point is that DOCOVA now has the ability to control the level of version control, to support the particular application that you have in mind.
