LotusCab: The Launching of a Social Idea
January 26, 2011 by Gary Walsh
On January 11, 2011, LotusCab was born on Twitter. Almost overnight, @LotusCab was mentioned in one of the largest Lotus-focused blogs, mentioned on podcasts (This Week in Lotus), and several top Lotus & IBM Tweeters: @Sandy_Carter, @BilalJaffery, and many more.
The social idea began to take shape.
The @LotusCab idea is Simple: Connect the Lotus Community around one after-thought item at Lotusphere (or any other Lotus Event), Ground Transportation. @LotusCab’s only function is to connect people around sharing a Taxi Cab going to, during, and leaving Lotusphere. That’s it. We even didn’t mention that Docova and DLI.tools were behind the initiative – except for the fact that we inserted part of the Docova logo in the @LotusCab image background.
The Idea for @LotusCab came the insight of Docova's Director of Marketing, Scott Tomlinson. The insight was simple: People were tweeting on #ls11 about wanting to share a cab at Lotusphere. With all the chatter on the ls11 hashtag, you could see the request quickly getting lost.
From a twitter perspective, @LotusCab is more powerful than a hash tag (#). Why? Hash tags tend to ‘disappear’ from search results after 7-10 days, whereas tweets from @LotusCab are permanent. With @LotusCab, every request is viewable – thereby enabling the Social Connection experience using social software everyone seems to have on their phone already.
At Lotusphere 2011 (and all the other Lotus events moving forward), save some money and be kind to the environment at the same time by sharing a cab using the free @LotusCab Twitter app. It’s accessible from your iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, etc phone. Post your details to @LotusCab, and we’ll make sure the Lotusverse can find you.
With Lotusphere taking place next week, this idea continues to take shape.
